Our Story

Please support Team OCF at this year's Vhi Women's Mini Marathon and help raise the €25,000 required to meet our commitment in 2018 to fund the Irish costs of the Neo-AEGIS International Clinical Trial.

Professor John Reynolds, St. James's Hospital explains about this trial -

"The Oesophageal Cancer Fund (OCF) has worked since its inception to reduce the incidence and deaths from oesophageal cancer through prevention, early diagnosis and improving cure rates. Once a patient is diagnosed with oesophageal cancer, usually presenting through difficulty in swallowing, achieving a cure is notoriously difficult, with a cure rate of approximately 40 per cent. Clinical trials of new drugs and radiation therapy in combination with surgery offer the greatest promise to improve prognosis and cure rates. A major trial, NeoAEGIS, led by Irish investigators, is currently active and will include approximately 250 Irish patients in a trial of over 600 patients from major European specialist centres. The trial offers rich potential to improve cure rates, and to make new discovery from associated scientific research, and has attracted worldwide attention to date, as the outcome of the study is anticipated to transform care and outcomes for oesophageal cancer patients. The OCF is a proud supporter and part sponsor of the trial which is administered through Cancer Trials Ireland "
